My own journey of healing along with the development of my integrative approach to counseling grew from my life experiences during my early teen years. Having suffered from Lyme disease, kidney failure, along with experiencing loss and trauma, I learned at the young age of 14, the profound relationship between our mind, body and inner self. Throughout the years, and in deepening my self exploration, I experienced a healing that has resulted in recovering from my physical ailments and from the emotional pains related to my relationship with food and challenges faced as a teen. Through working in the field of eating disorders, adolescent and adult mental health, I have an immense passion in working with people as a whole and believe in the intrinsic strength that we all possess as humans to transform.
In the past, I have worked with agencies supporting street-involved and homeless youth as well as pregnant and parenting teens, of whom often sought support due to their experiences of trauma, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and other highly stressful living conditions. I consider myself to be a passionate LGBTQIA+ advocate and ally. In addition to my counseling practice as a Registered Clinical Social Worker (RSW), I am a Holistic Nutritionist and have completed a PhD program at the University of Toronto developing research in the field of eating disorders, mental health and nutrition.
Over several years, I have immersed myself in a specialized training for eating disorders - a program known as Life Process Transformation. This program involves experiential learning and offers guidance through a mindfulness-based yet integrative healing process. I am more than happy to speak to you further about this approach to counseling as an option. It has been recognized as effective in the treatment of eating concerns, anxiety, depression, addictions and other challenges that I hear presented to me often, such as struggling with significant mind chatter and analyzing, concerns related to people pleasing and perfectionism etc. Overall, it is a process that aims to strengthen one's connection and relationship to their true self - within through a variety of awareness opening exercises and experiences.
Each and every one of us have our own story and I feel such a deep gratitude and love for all of those that I've been and continue to be connected with in my practice.
